Almost ready for prime time

Dozens of new seats are unloaded for Clarkston Village Players’ Depot Theater.

The historic Depot Theater is getting some upgrades, include new seats, carpeting, and plumbing.
Clarkston Village Players members including Linda and Joe Mishler, Al Bartlett, Sue Owen, Jim Pike, Jerry and Linda Payton, Karen McClellan, George Arnold, Debbie Kramer, and Sue Owen helped unpack and haul 67 chairs from the delivery truck to the auditorium, Aug. 10. Work also included new carpet in the lobby and auditorium, set building for the upcoming show, and other projects.
“It was a long and arduous task, but it got done,” Linda Mischler said. “Truthfully we are all getting too old for this, but that is how it goes sometimes.”
Next up are some plumbing repairs to clean the water softener and increase water pressure.
The train depot was built after the original was destroyed by fire in 1923, according to CVP. It served train passengers until 1959, when CVP purchased the depot from Grand Trunk for $150. Regular theater seats replaced wooden folding chairs in 1978, with renovation of the lobby area in the 1980s.
Over the years, the theater was continually upgraded with a heating and cooling system, carpeting, lighting and sound room with new equipment, new stage curtain, and replacement seating systems.
“The Dixie Swim Club” opens Sept. 7, running through Sept. 22 at Depot Theater, 4861 White Lake Road. Call 248-425-5842.
