Best resigning as chamber chief

Janelle Best announced her resignation as Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, effective Oct. 4, to accept a position as the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce president.
“Our board members are elated for Janelle – the position is a natural next step for her,” says Emily Ford, Chamber Board president. “She has demonstrated tremendous leadership skills, futuristic thinking and a strong desire for professional growth. We really are honored that the Howell community has chosen her – our Clarkston native – as we know she is an extremely promising leader in our state’s Chamber industry.”
Best has served with the Clarkston Chamber for five years, with 3-1/2 years as executive director.
An executive search will be conducted by a special search committee appointed by the Clarkston Chamber’s Board of Directors, while Marie Clifford, the Chamber’s current social media and event coordinator, has been selected to serve as interim executive director.
“Having to make the decision to leave my hometown and its tremendous business community was difficult,” said Best. “But yet, the opportunity to continue the tremendous voice and respect built during the past 26 years by Pat Convery is one that is humbling and truly an honor within our statewide Chamber world. I’m really looking forward to working in Howell.”
