Big win Wednesday, but Friday brings a loss

Lady Cagers had a rough start in their first game of the new year, but came back strong.
‘Tonight was a tough night,? said Coach Tim Wasilk after Wednesday’s 45-27 win over Pontiac Central.
‘It’s always tough when you have a few weeks off and come back together as a team. It showed tonight we came back tonight, we were little rusty.?
In the first eight minutes of the game, both teams were locked 6-6.
As the second quarter began, the rustiness for the Ladies began to wear off as they got their momentum up. Kaleigh Kenny broke the tie between the Lady Wolves and Pontiac Central.
Jennifer Johnston secured Clarkston’s lead with adding five points to the board.
The pace continued and the Lady Wolves scored a total of 14 points in the second quarter.
Pontiac Central made it past Clarkston’s defense to make a total of seven points.
Within the first three minutes of the last half of the game, both teams put four points on their side of the scoreboard.
Clarkston kept their pace up and put a total of 30 points on the board in the second half of the game. Eighteen points from the third quarter and 12 points from the fourth quarter.
Pontiac Central gained 21 for the second half with 11 points from the third quarter and 10 in the fourth quarter.
‘We had a good third quarter today,? said Wasilk. ‘It gives us something to work on. We got to play four quarters of basketball.
‘We have been working on zones a lot lately. If we can get good ball movement we can get the ball to the outside and good things can happen either it’s in or out action.?
Kenny led the Lady Wolves with 13 points for the game. Taylor Daugherty contributed 8 points while Johnston contributed 7.
Danielle Tobert contributed 16 points for Pontiac Central.
The JV team won their game against Pontiac Central 42-35.

The Lady Wolves followed up Friday by playing Rochester High School, but lost 47-36.
‘Hopefully we can give them a battle,? said Tim Wasilk before going into Friday night’s match with Rochester.
Rochester played over Christmas break and on Wednesday night, winning both to bring their overall record, 7-0.
Clarkston remained close to Rochester, ending the first quarter one point behind them.
Rochester closed the gap by getting past the Lady Wolves? defense and outscoring them in the second and third quarters.
High scorers for the game were Kaleigh Kenny with 12 points and eight rebounds and Taylor Daugherty with 10 points and six rebounds.
Rochester’s high scorers were Amber Brewster with 10 points, Hillary Brawn with 10 points and six rebounds, and Tatiana Haynes with 6 points and five rebounds
Clarkston overall record is 5-3. In the OAA, their record is 2-3.
The JV team also lost to Rochester, 39-30.
The Lady Wolves? next game will be Thursday at Southfield-Lathrup High School, 19301 West 12 Mile Road, Lathrup Village. The JV team will play at 5:30 p.m. with Varsity following.
