Cub Scout Pack 163 in Clarkston held their annual fall campout last weekend at the Holly State Recreation Area. Close to four dozen scouts and their parents arrived Friday evening at the park’s organizational campground, where co-pack leaders, Adam Anderson and David Harpster, had a spaghetti dinner prepared.
Scouts experienced the basics of camping—from setting up tents and cleaning up after meals to fire safety and camp songs. After cooling off in Heron Lake on Saturday afternoon, scouts learned the basics of orienteering and how to lash together a chair with sticks and rope, and later that night, pack leaders led the group on a night hike through the woods.
This year, for the first time, the campout included Kindergarteners, thanks to the new Lions dens added by the Boy Scouts of America. Pack 163 meets at the First Congregational Church in Clarkston.
