The Wolves are heading back to the MHSAA Division 1 Girls Golf State Championship again after winning their second consecutive regional championship last Thursday.
“We are beyond excited,” said Lezlie Hallman, head coach for Clarkston Girls Varsity Golf. “They did phenomenal. They banded together and as a team won. They work really hard and they have the dedication. I was hoping we could do it and we did it.”

The girls scored 334 at Pine Knob Golf Course, two strokes ahead of Bloomfield Hills who finished second place with 336. Troy also qualified for states, finishing third with 374.
“They just kept their minds to it,” said Hallman. We had a lot of fun this season just playing. For regionals, I was hoping we would do it and the girls were hoping we could do it. It just fell into place. They were all totally excited about it. It was great.”
All five Wolves finished in the top ten of 47 golfers at the tournament.
Ashley Liles led the pack with a par of 79 for third place. Claudia Sampson finished in sixth place with a 81; Payton Greenlee, sixth place, 85; and Elin Gebrowski and Lauren Hartline tied at ninth place with 89.
“I am proud of them,” Hallman said.
She added Pine Knob was great not only during the regional meet but during the season.
“They were so nice,” Hallman said. “Anything we asked for, we got. If we asked for a tee time they said sure, what time and how many do you need. Even with JV – that was 17 girls they let use the course for the season. I couldn’t be more thankful to Pine Knob, their owner and the staff there for their kindness and generosity.”
The girls head to Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek this Friday and Saturday for the state championship.
“They just have to do their thing,” Hallman said. “Just work hard to improve from what we did last year. Last year we came in sixth. If we could do that again or finish in the top five they would just be ecstatic. Golf can be challenging sometimes. You just never know how you are going to do. They have the mindset of they want it and they are going to go for it. It was a good season and them going to states is the icing on the cake.”
