Clarkston seniors celebrated their academic accomplishments at Senior Awards Night last Monday, May 15.
Seniors graduating summa cum laude, a GPA between 3.8-4.0, and magna cum laude, a GPA between 3.5-3.79, received awards and some award recipients were also honored for community scholarships they earned.
Clarkston High School Principal Gary Kaul began the night with opening remarks, followed by Superintendent Rod Rock.
“Sitting before us, ladies and gentlemen, are some of the most accomplished young people in the state of Michigan, artistically, academically, athletically,” Superintendent Rod Rock said. “They’ve worked very, very hard for these accomplishments, they’ve achieved amazing things and so, I want to congratulate you on all that you’ve achieved.”
During his remarks, Rock told students to believe in themselves, no matter what happens, and to have no doubt about what they can achieve. He left them with the inspirational quote “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” and thanked them for all they had done as part of the Clarkston community.
“I just want to leave you with three gratitude’s: I want to thank you for daring to dream, I want to thank you for putting in the work it takes to achieve at such a high level as you have, and I want to thank you most sincerely for inspiring me over and over again, because I’m blessed to watch you reach out for your goals and achieve them and I want you to know what an inspiration you are to me and to so many other people,” Rock said.
After remarks students were called up. Each shook Dr. Rock’s hand and had their accomplishments and scholarships read by Principal Kaul, who also informed the audience of what university each student will be attending and their intended field of study.
The event was attended by several school administration members from throughout the district, as well as representatives of Clarkston’s civic and religious organizations and local businesses that donate to Clarkston education.
