Johnston keeps Lady Wolves in the game

Lady Cagers back-to-back games at the end of the week left them split, and brought their overall record to 11-7.
The ladies won their Saturday game against Kettering, 37-24.
The team found their lead at the end of the first quarter and built from there.
Team Captain Julie Porter shot a field goal with a minute left in the first quarter, bringing Kettering into the lead by one point.
Jennifer Johnston did not give Kettering too much time to celebrate their lead as she brought the Wolves back into the lead with a two-point bucket.
Taylor Daugherty added one more point at the line to send the Wolves with a two-point lead, 9-7.
In the second quarter, the Wolves scored eight points and brought up their defense.
They ended the game, 37-24.
High scorers against Kettering were Taylor Daugherty (12), Alyssa Swindlehurst (7), and Jennifer Johnston (6).
‘I think we lost a little pep in our step from last night. It is tough playing back-to-back games,? said coach Tim Wasilk. ‘I thought Kettering did a nice job. They had a lot of shots tonight, Kettering just wasn’t making their shots, that kind of helped us with the fast break and get our shots. We defended pretty well.?
School cancellation on Thursday postponed their game against Rochester to Friday.
‘It was a great game,? said Wasilk.
They were down 31-16 going into the second half. Rochester found a tough defense build in the third quarter and only scored four points. They continued strong into the last quarter. They were down to one point within the last minute, but Rochester pulled back up to win 47-41.
‘First half was a little rough,? said Wasilk. ‘We came back second half, responded down to one point within the last minute, we had a couple of opportunities to go ahead and just didn’t get it done. We played a pretty nice game. I think our girls are playing their best basketball at this point of the season. I’m proud of the girls and how they are responding.?
High scorers for the Rochester game were Kaleigh Kenny 17, Taylor Daugherty 11, and Jennifer Johnson 7.
The ladies have two more games this week before they start district play-offs. They played Southfield-Lathrup in their last home game on Tuesday.
On Thursday, they travel to Marian High School with JV beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity following.
Play-offs begin Monday, Feb. 18. They will play Oxford at 5:30 p.m. at Waterford Kettering High School.
‘We will take it one game at a time,? said Wasilk.
