15 years ago – 2003
“Valentine’s Day spirit” Bailey Lake Elementary second grader Alex McIntosh shows off his heart-shaped holiday glasses in his classroom’s Valentine’s Day party.
“Erin gets ‘good citizen’ award” Out of 600 seniors at Clarkston High School, Erin Browe received the Good Citizens Award, an honor from the Sashabaw Plains Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
“Resident published in multiple motorcycle magazines” Clarkston resident Mike Cascone combined his passions for motorcycles with his interest in writing. His writings about his experience with motorcycles was used as advertisements by Victory Motorcycles in multiple national magazines.

25 years ago – 1993
“Split board OKs raise” Despite a split vote from the Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education, Superintendent Gary Haner would receive a 3 1/2-percent raise for the 1992-1993 school year. A vote for a 2-percent raise failed 3-3 with Vice President Paul Van Klaveren abstaining from the vote as he wanted further discussion.
“Morgan Lake Golf Classic calls for 364 new homes” After about three years of planning, Morgan Lake Golf Classic was up for approval. The 303-acre development north of I-75, near Mount Zion would include condominiums, single-family homes and a public golf course if Independence Township approves the plan.
“Wolves stop Dragons, win team district” The Clarkston Varsity Wrestling team defeated Lake Orion in the team district finals, 47-21, earning the fifth district wrestling title. During the individual district meet, the Wolves qualified seven.

50 years ago – 1968
“Voters nominate Frank Russell for village president” A total of 257 voters went to the polls in the Village of Clarkston first primary election in three years. Frank Russell received 150 votes for village president and David Leak received 88 votes.
“Clarkston bounds past Holly and Milford” The Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball team went on a six game winning streak as they added Holly, 72-50, and Milford, 69-58, to their wins.
“The whole bloomin’ thing’s a hobby” Winter was in full force outside, but at the Richard Bullen home spring was blooming in their greenhouse which began as a hobby for Dick.
