15 years ago – 2002
“Clarkston braces for cuts despite more cash” Michigan was still keeping its promise to schools statewide for a per pupil fund increase, but Clarkston Community Schools was still preparing for financial cutbacks.
“Facilities hearing low in numbers, high in support” The Independence Township hearing concerning a proposed $28 million bond for construction received few voicing opposition as only 40 residents attended the first public hearing to voice their displeasure.
“Clarkston girl chosen to represent modeling agency” Alana Goeringer was chosen to represent Barlbizon-Aero management at the International Model and Talen Association Convention. She was chosen from 400 people and had potential to be “actress of the year” in her group.

25 years ago – 1992
“Still growing” The economic outlook for the Clarkston area looked steady as permit requests in Springfield and Independence townships were slightly lower in 1991 than the previous year.
“Two steppin’ it” Oakland County resident Jerry Green walks a group of senior citizens through a Western line dance at the Senior Hootenanny barnyard dance held at Springfield Oaks Activities Center.
“Four advance to individual regionals” Jerry Anderson, Jason Roughton, Nathan Smith finished in first place and Brian Davis finished in third during the MHSAA Wrestling Individual District meet to qualify for regionals for Clarkston.

50 years ago – 1967
“Lease for beach area being prepared by village” Members of the Clarkston Village Council and Independence Township Board of Trustees discussed a lease arrangement for Deer Lake Beach which would be beneficial to residents in the area.
“Receives Jaycee distinguished service award” The second distinguished service award presented by the Clarkston Area Jaycees was given to William Gillow, who was in charge of the Junior Miss contest for the Jaycees. He was a licensed funeral director and employed at Lewis E. Wint Funeral Home.
“Round the town” Karen Temple didn’t let a broken leg slow her down as she hobbled around school while Tom Kranish was on crutches with a broken ankle from a skiing accident.
