15 years ago – 2002
“Keeping kids safe in school is priority” To acknowledge the various measures implemented to assure the safety of students, the Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education approved Oct. 16-20 as Safe Schools Week.
“Former Clarkston resident swimming with manatees in Florida invites you to join her” Former long time Clarkston resident Traci Wood invited readers to try Native Vacations, Inc. on Florida’s Nature Coast, offering custom vacations, accommodations, and adventures which included breathtaking views in a small, quiet town.
“Cagers net second straight league championship” For the second straight year, Clarkston Girls Varsity Basketball claimed the Oakland Activities Association Division I championship.

25 years ago – 1992
“Bush takes township, city” While Democrat Bill Clinton won the national election, he was not the candidate of choice in Independence, Springfield and Clarkston as a majority of voters chose Republican team of Bush/Quayle during the 1992 election.
“Gridders win six of last seven games” Clarkston Varsity Football opened the season with a 0-2 but went on to win six of their seven last games of the season. Their latest victim was Highland who was 8-0 before the Wolves defeated them, 24-18.
“Scientist, professor to speak at NASA” Local scientist Dr. Roger Ordidge of Independence Township was invited to speak before the National Aeronautics and Space Administration where he would give a presentation on technology and the capabilities of magnetic resonance imaging.

50 years ago – 1967
“Schools recess while teachers convene” Schools were out for two days while more than 24,000 teachers went to two-day conferences sponsored by the Michigan Education Association in attempt to emphasize the improvement of instruction.
“First snowfall fun” The six O’Rourke children: Patty, Linda, Nancy, Kathy, Jeanne and Chrissie, made the most of the first snowfall by making snowpeople which matched them.
“Round the town” A Halloween party was held at the home of the Kennedy family on Simler Drive for Brownie Troop No. 16 out of Andersonville Elementary.
