New parade route

The Clarkston Labor Day Parade has a new route this year. It will start at Saint Daniel Catholic Church at Holcomb and Miller Road at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 5, go down Miller Road to Main Street, south to Church Street, and ending at Renaissance High.
The change was made at the request of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to promote better traffic flow and control.
Sponsored by Clarkston Rotary Club, The traditional end-of-summer parade include floats, classic cars, community service organizations, musical groups, local businesses, political candidates, families, and equestrian riders. Political candidates will be asked to make a $50 charitable donation to the Clarkston Rotary Club.

Public hearing on
pond improvement

Clarkston Mill Ponds Lake Improvement Board hosts a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, about a proposed three-year improvement project for the Mill Ponds in downtown Clarkston.
The project would include surveys and treatments of nuisance aquatic plants, and goose control, 2017 through 2019 with an annual cost of $10,685. The hearing will be at Independence Township Hall, 6483 Waldon Center Drive.
The board will also have a hearing on a proposed special assessment roll to pay for it.
The proposal is on file for public review at the offices of the City of the Village of Clarkston, 375 Depot Road, and Independence Township Hall.
