Crossing count

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies are conducting a pedestrian count on M-15 this week for MDOT, to determine if more crosswalks are needed.
There has to be at least 20 crossings in the timeframe, 7-8:15 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m., to show a need, said Lt. Larry Perry to Clarkston City Council.
Crosswalks are needed at Middle Lake Road and Laurelton for safety, because children have been injured crossing the road, said Mayor Steven Percival.

Mosquito funds

Independence Township authorized the Department of Public Works (DPW) to request reimbursement from the 2017 Mosquito Borne Disease Reimbursement Program at their April 18 meeting. The reimbursement amount available to Independence Township is $6041.51.
With the reimbursement, the Township will purchase Repel Sportsmen Max Pen-Sized Pump Spray and it will be available to township residents at Township Hall, District Library, Parks, Recreation & Seniors and all DPW buildings.

Data conversion

The township was able to complete the FileBound Document Conversion Project without an outside contractors help and, therefore, rescinded their original motion taken at the Feb. 21 meeting to approve quotes for the work from outside companies.
Rescinding the motion saved Independence Township $3500, which was reallocated to an account to provide funding for an employee to attend a technology conference in San Diego.

4-H service day

A month of service work culminates in the 4-H True Leaders in Service Day, Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Springfield Oaks County Park, 12451 Andersonville Road.
The free family event is open to the public and includes educational hands-on experiences in a friendly atmosphere. Activities will include ceramics and other crafts, animal demos, archery, virtual reality experiences and a horse show. Information will be available about 4-H and the Oakland County Fair.

Railroad work

Canadian National are working on the railroad crossing at Clark Road between Dilley Road and Hogback Lake Road in Springfield Township.
The road will be closed during repair. Detour is Hogback Lake Road to Andersonville Road back to Clark Road, and viceversa.
The repair work should be completed on Monday, May 1.
