Tedder office hours

State Rep. Jim Tedder’s open office hours include Friday, May 26, 4-5:30 p.m. at Leo’s Coney, 6325 Sashabaw Road.

Block grant OK’d

At their May 16 meeting, the Independence Township Board approved the renewal of their cooperative agreement with Oakland County to participate in the Communtiy Development Block Grant program. The program provides the township with about $75,000 a year for various projects. It’s a three-year agreement for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Pump repair needed

One of the four pumps at Deer Valley Pump House in Independence Township has been taken out of service for repairs.
The Township Board approved up to $38,911 to rebuild the pump and motor, if necessary. Repairing is significantly cheaper than buying a new pump, according to Department of Public Works Director Dave McKee.

Mental Health Month

At the Township Board’s May 16 meeting the board proclaimed the month of May as Mental Health Month in partnership with Oakland County Community Health Network (OCHN).
The proclamation states “OCHN calls upon our citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools to recommit our state to increasing awareness and understanding of mental illness, and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people with mental illness to promote recovery.”
