Radio for firefighters

The Independence Township Fire Department was approved to purchase five new portable radios by the Independence Township Board, June 20, for the cost of $16,585.20.
The purchase will provide radios for each firefighter with emergency buttons allowing other firefighters to know who’s in danger and check where they were assigned.
The Township Board also approved a bid for sidewalk repair at Fire Station One for up to $19,255.50.

Five lanes for
Sashabaw Road

A $5.6 million project for north Sashabaw Road will widen it to five lanes from Flemings Lake to Clarkston roads.
The project will start in late 2018 and will also install a safety path and street lights on the east side of the roadway and a sanitary sewer on the west, said Independence Township Supervisor Pat Kittle to the Independence Township Board, June 20.
He added they are also negotiating to install a natural gas line and fiber optic cable on the west side.
Funds will come from the Road Commission of Oakland County, and township sewer, general, and safety path funds.
