On the road to states

The Varsity girls ski team continued on their journey towards states by winning regionals last Thursday at Mount Holly.
The perfect score is a 20, the team had 23, scoring 11 points in the slalom and 12 points in the giant slalom.
‘We did very well as a team. We were very united,? said junior Maddy Dunn. ‘We have been treating every race like a state meet. We’ve come together as a team and have been out there helping each other out. I was ecstatic especially standing on the podium with my teammates. It was great to have everyone there.?
‘There is always good competition,? said Coach Mike Foyteck. ‘They skied pretty well. We had a good day. Their progression is solid.?
Seniors Tyler Kenerson and Chris Bland qualified to race for state as individual racers.
‘They are racing to get podium finish and will be fine if they ski like they have been,? said Foyteck.
Foyteck also won big and was named Girls Regional Coach of the Year. Coaches attending the race filled out a ballot to honor another coach.
‘It was an honor from my peers,? said Foyteck.
On Tuesday’s meet, the girls team saw the top teams from Alpine Valley, Mount Holly, Brighton and their home mountain Pine Knob.
Going into the meet, the girls were ready.
‘We’re so excited,? said Dunn. ‘It will be another race to get us ready for states. We’re hoping to do very well.?
Next Monday, they will compete in MHSAA state finals against Marquette and Traverse City.
‘They are pretty tough,? said Foyteck.
