PHYLLIS ELAINE SKELTON

SKELTON, PHYLLIS ELAINE (née Walter) was born in Clarkston, Michigan on January 23, 1925 to Carrie Walter (née Jones) and Earl Walter. Phyllis was the youngest of four sisters: Ruth, Elizabeth (Betty), and Laura who often used her middle name, Caroline, or the nickname, Ki. Phyllis lost her father at age 11 and was raised after that by her mother with assistance from her sisters. She was a graduate of Clarkston High School. During a portion of WWII, Phyllis worked at General Motors Truck and Coach (now GMC). She married Walter Kenneth Skelton in 1945 and the couple welcomed their first child, Terrance, in 1948. In 1950, the couple lost a newborn, Kay Denise, due to a birth accident, but another child, Dennis, was born in 1951. In 1958, their final child, Patricia, was born. In 1963, Phyllis went to work for Pontiac General Hospital (now Doctors’ Hospital of Michigan). She retired more than 20 years later and with her husband, spent several years in Southern California near their daughter, Patricia. In 1991, Phyllis and Walter relocated to Maryland where the couple focused their attention on son Dennis and grandchildren Anastasia and Alexander. The couple would live out their remaining years in Maryland. Phyllis Skelton is survived by her children, Terrance, Dennis, and Patricia; grandchildren Julie, Anastasia, Alexander, Sydney, and Jonathon; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Marisa; niece, Linda Wheaton; and nephews, Wayne and Dale Strandberg.  A memorial service will be held at COATS FUNERAL HOME-Waterford on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.  Lunch will be served immediately after the service at the Deer Lake Athletic Club in Clarkston, which is located at 6167 White Lake Road.
