Pokley leads as Wolves remain undefeated

Cagers took on OAA Red adversaries Oak Park and Southfield last week and came out with two more wins to continue their unbroken record, 8-0.
The Wolves began the week with a home game on Jan. 20 against Southfield. They led throughout each quarter to a 68-50 win.
‘It was a pretty good win,? said Dan Fife, Clarkston Head Coach. ‘I was happy with the way they played defensively. We did really good. I don’t think it’s an 18-point win. I think Southfield was better. We just made more shots than they did. We got the ball where we wanted to.?
Southfield Coach Gary Teasley also thought the ending score didn’t reflect the effort his team put into the game.
‘For the most part the score was kind of deceptive because there were some things we were able to do well and we were so far behind maybe it didn’t look like it,? he said.
The Bluejays kept close to Clarkston in points during the first quarter and tied the score at four.
Matt Kamieniecki brought the Wolves into the lead and a block from Tyler Scarlett kept Southfield from scoring.
Brandon Verlinden furthered the score making two shots on the line from a foul.
Clarkston led by eight points as the first quarter wrapped and widened the gap during the remainder of the game.
Scarlett and Verlinden kept their consistency from the previous games to be the defensive wall of the game.
‘We played hard,? said Kamieniecki. ‘I thought they would come out harder with presses and set trap.?
Brandon Pokley was the leading scorer with 21 points and had three 3-pointers. Kamieniecki scored 20 and Tom Staton had 17 points.
‘I would like to congratulate Clarkston, they are number four for a reason,? said Teasley. ‘Early in the game they set the tone and got ahead of us and that took us out of our whole game plan.?
The boys continued the week with a game at Oak Park and won, 74-54.
Going into the game Fife and the boys were ready for a tough match.
‘It will be a harder game,? said Kamieniecki before the game. ‘It’s a hostile environment. I have never been there, but coach says it’s pretty rough. I am ready.?
It was another game the boys took the lead from the beginning and held onto it.
The Knights leading player K’allante Miller was benched due to disciplinary reasons, so Clarkston never got a chance to match their skills against the future Central Michigan University player.
The Wolves stuck to their game plan and played to the best of their ability.
Pokley led with two 3-pointers for a combined score of 27. Kamieniecki added 20 points and Staton scored 16.
The leading scorer from Oak Park was Sam Burton with 26 points.
The boys cancelled game from Dec. 19 will be played Wednesday against Flint Northern (4-6). They will host a league game against West Bloomfield (8-3) on Friday.
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
