Seeing a need at Autumn Ridge of Clarkston Assisted Living, Carolyn Place of Clarkston asked the Independence Township Senior Center Quilting group for help. Answering the call were members Bonnie Herrera and Pat Reeves.
Place, whose husband Don was a patient before his death at Autumn Ridge, provided lots of bright cloth to the group and the quilters took over. They assembled more than 20 clothing protectors, giving them to Josie Schnitker, activities coordinator for Autumn Ridge Assisted Living.
“It means so much for us and the residents. They are such nice clothing protectors. It’s harder for our residents to eat and keep their clothing clean. This means a lot for the residents who live here, to be remembered,” said Schnitker.
The quilting group meets on Friday mornings at the Senior Center.
“We are a group of sewers and we learn from each other,” said Herrera, who said she hadn’t had a lot of experience quilting before joining the group.
She added the group makes quilts for raffles at the Senior Center and small gifts for Meals on Wheels residents.
“We are a sociable group that enjoys quilting and sewing,” she said.
