Deputy Sharon Beltz earned Deputy of the Year honors from the Clarkston Area Optimists Club, June 1.
“We’re really honored to be able to recognize firefighters and deputies for the great work they do, protecting us,” said Optimist Club member Dennis Ritter.
Beltz has been a deputy since 1994, working assignments including marine division, ORV instructor, booking supervisor, corrections training officer, cell extraction team, honor guard, evidence technician, and certified bike officer.
“I’ve known her since I was city manager,” Ritter said. “We were having a lot of problems in Depot Park with vandalism and rowdiness. It was great to see her peddling around.”
Independence Township Fire Department Chief Mitch Petterson received recognition from the club for firefighters’ service to the community.
“I’m honored to accept this on behalf of the department,” Petterson said.
