Runners find success at county meet

Five members of the boys track team became champions in the biggest county meet in the state.
The boys from Clarkston Junior High School worked together to beat Avondale Middle by one point to take first-place honors. They earned 62 points in the Oakland County seventh and eighth grade meet, May 29.
The champions were Matt Wright, Adam Bruderick, John Redman, Grant Huber, and Spenser Pawlik.
‘They really came together as a team,? said boys coach Mike Greve. ‘Their times were unbelievable and were better than all year.?
Not all the boys were able to perform in their regular events, but they understood what to do to help the team, said Greve.
Wright threw 41-feet, 6-inches in his shot put event, beating Oxford Middle School by less than a foot. Bruderick ran 2:06.66 in the 800 meter run.
Redman, Huber, Pawlik, and Bruderick took first place in the 3,200-meter relay.
The girls? teams from Clarkston Junior High and Sashabaw Middle School also placed during the day.
Placing in third place were C.J. Gozdor (high jump) and Natalie Smith (3200 meter run).
Redman, Smith, Bruderick were part of another relay team to score during the meet. Travis Smith completed the 1600 meter relay team that took fourth place.
The girls 3200 relay team of Lindsey Friend, Mende Gleiss, Jill Harris, and Smith took fourth place.
Molly Jeffers took fourth in 400 meter dash.
Fifth place was held by Taylor Wright and Ryne Jones (55 meter hurdles), Travis Smith (400 meter dash), Pawlik 3200 meter run, and the relay team of Mason Porritt, Ian Brennan, Travis Smith and Wright (800 relay).
Sixth place was held by Jill Harris (1600 meter run) and the boys 400 meter relay team of Nathan Lake, Ian Brennan, Joe Genoa, and Wright.
Seventh place was held by Sarah Rooding (400 meter dash), Porritt (long jump), Alex King (high jump), and the girls 1600 relay team made up by Allison Stawara, Natalie Smith, Rooding, and Harris.
Redman rounded off the top eight in the 800 meter run.
Both teams ended their regular season with an undefeated record of 8-0.
Over 40 schools competed in the 23rd Oakland County meet at Clarkston High School and over one thousand athletes were there for the event.
Clarkston Junior High took 13th place with 20 points and Sashabaw Middle School took 31st place with two points.
‘They had a lot of good distance events that will help cross country next year,? said girls track Coach Jamie Ryske.
He noted the girls team works hard every year, and this year he saw more of the same.
‘They worked hard and competed all season long,? said Ryske.
Both teams ended their regular season with an undefeated record of 8-0.
