$7.9M fund balance

Clarkston schools’ budget will maintain a fund balance of $7.9 million through the 2019 school year, Executive Director of Business Services Mary Beth Rogers reported to the Board of Education, Feb. 13.
Budget parameters for the 2017/2018 school year include maintaining fund equity, loss of 100 students, benefit increase of two percent, no retirement rate increase, $100 state funding increase, and continuing Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System offset.
Assumptions for the 2018/2019 school year are the same, except there is no benefit increase.
The estimated fund equity for the 2017-2018 school year is $7,878,482; and $7,859,732 for the 2019 year.

Teacher of the year

The Clarkston Foundation will honor K-12 specials teachers in this year’s Outstanding Classroom Teacher Recognition Program.
Nominees must be certified, full-time Clarkston teachers in music, physical education, art education, special education classroom, or Young 5’s, with a minimum of two years teaching experience.
The Teacher of the Year award winner will receive free use of a new Ford car of their choosing for a year, courtesy of The Suburban Collection of Waterford.
Anyone can submit a nomination. Check www.clarkstonfoundation.org and www.clarkston.k12.mi.us for details. Forms are available at all Clarkston schools and the Board of Education office. Deadline is March 31.
The selection committee of local citizens will choose the winner through nomination review, interviews and classroom observation.
The awards ceremony will be on May 24 at 4:30 p.m. at Clarkston Community Schools Administration Building, 6389 Clarkston Road.
