Clarkston residents Austin Helm and Ashlyn Helm recently won the Vex Robotics Michigan State Championship.
The Helm children are part of a four-member team, VEX Team 98725B – Team Falcon, which won the Michigan State VEX Robotics Championship for the second year in a row.
They also set a new Vex Robotics Michigan State Record for highest match score during the VEX In The Zone 2017-2018 season. Their high score also ranks them in 68th place of all matches played throughout the world, out of 124,076 matches played across the world this season.
Rochester Hills City Council and Mayor Barnett recognized the team’s success, and the students were also featured as live guests on FOX News TV-2 Detroit.
Team Falcon, with team mentors Rusty and Lenise Helm, Austin and Ashlyn’s parents, competed at the U.S. C.R.E.A.T.E Nationals Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa, last week, where they ranked 17th in qualifiers and made it to the Elite 8 Rounds of their division.
Their state championship win earned them an invitation to compete at VEX Worlds in Louisville, Kentucky, next week, April 26-28.
