Clarkston Lighthouse can stay on the road to help residents in need much better now, with the help of Clarkston Rotary, Bowman Chevrolet, and residents.
The community effort, launched by Rotary President Mary Sloan, resulted in a new-to-them van to pick up food and other donations around the area.
Their old van was worn out, with hundreds of thousands of miles on it.
Rotary’s $7,500 donation was used to kickstart a successful fundraising appeal for the Clarkston van, with funds also allocated by the Lighthouse Board toward the purchase of a vehicle for the Pontiac Lighthouse location.
At its new office, 5850 Dixie Hightway, Lighthouse Clarkston provided 52,164 meals to the Clarkston community last fiscal year. Over 60 percent of those served were children. The Clarkston location has been serving northern Oakland County since 1990.
Overall, Lighthouse provided 256,932 meals to people in need last year. For more information, call 248-972-1497.
