Wolves slip on the ice

Two rematch games could have gone either way, but neither went for Clarkston.
Varsity hockey lost their two rematch games last week, bringing their record 8-14-1.
On Thursday, they played against Lake Orion and lost, 3-1. In the Wolves? first game against the Dragons, they lost 2-0.
‘I thought it went pretty well. I think it was a pretty matched game,? said Clarkston Coach Bryan Krygier. ‘We played well. We moved the puck well and got plenty of shots.?
‘It’s heating up,? said Lake Orion coach Pat Cherry.
‘It could’ve gone either way. Obviously we’re happy, we came out on top. We might see these guys one more time in the playoffs. Tonight’s a win but it might not be over with yet.?
Lake Orion was the first to score a goal. Cody Wendell put the Dragons on the board with 7:23 left in the first period. He had an assist from Scott Fabbri.
Clarkston played more fiercely in the second period, and tied the score.
Nick Posawatz put his team on the scoreboard eight minutes into second period. He was assisted by Zach Rogers.
But at 2:51 left, Brad Berschbach brought Lake Orion into the lead, scoring a goal. Less than two minutes later, Mike Rinke scored Lake Orion’s final goal with an assist from Scott Fabbri.
‘They looked stronger today,? said Pat Cherry. ‘They’re a good team.?

Wolves continued the week on Saturday with a rematch game against North Farmington.
They lost to them in January, 2-0. They lost to them again Saturday, 8-4.
‘It was a bad game,? Krygier said. ‘We gave up too many goals. We weren’t focused. We didn’t play our potential.?
North Farmington scored two goals in the first period.
Clarkston struck back when Tyler Frakes shot the puck into the goal with an assist from Dan Smith, with three and a half minutes to go in the period.
The Flyers scored one more, and Clarkston went into the second period two behind, 3-1.
In the second period, Jordan Buetow and Michael Fiteny assisted Jack Schlau with the Wolves? second goal, at 9:47 left in the period.
A pass from goalie Joe Harrington to Smith, tied the score less than a minute later.
The Flyers were quick to reclaim the advantage and made two more goals before the period was done, 5-3.
Justin Carroll added one more point for Clarkston with an assist from Chris Salo, with 7:34 left in the game.
But two minutes later, North Farmington scored again, putting the Wolves three points behind.
With the game near the end, North Farmington had two players in the penalty box.
Clarkston pulled Harrington out of the net to put a sixth player on the ice. The gambit backfired, though, as Flyers Jim Chesney took the opportunity, skated towards the goal, and hit the puck into the open net.
‘When we start shooting the puck, good things happen, we make it,? said North Farmington’s coach Ken Anderson. ‘We came out and everyone participated.?
The Wolves host Brother Rice in their last game of the season on Thursday. The game begins at 6 p.m.
‘We have the potential,? said Krygier. ‘We have to activate it and found a way to win. We can’t be satisfied with losing. We have to activate the potential and abilities that we have. We have got to compete to win.?
On Monday, the team will begin MHSAA Pre-Regional competition at McMorran Arena in Port Huron. The game begins at 8 p.m.
