Year of training pays off

Last Thursday was a night of celebration for the boys’ swimming team. For the first time in two years, they won a league meet when they beat Harrison-Farmington, 97-83.
For the team, it was their first meet of the season.
Last year, the team lost all of their 16 dual matches.
‘It’s been a long process,? said Coach Kenwyn Chock. ‘Now we are competitive.?
Chock attributes the success to two years of continual training and experience of seniors and juniors.
Chock has set goals for the boys to meet this year.
One of the goals is to send a relay team to state championship.
Both relay teams are already swimming towards the goal. The team of Jake Rush, Robert Nelson, Philip Voorheis, and Adam Curry took first place in the 200 yard medley freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.95.
Curry, Nelson, Voorheis, and Kenneth Stelpflug took first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.07
Other events in which the swimming team took first place were 100 yard freestyle by Adam Curry (52.64) and the 100 yard backstroke by Jake Rush (1:00.33).
Nelson took first place in 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.82) and 200 yard individual medley (2:10.35).
Next dual meet will be Thursday against Rochester Adams. The 6 p.m. meet will be at Clarkston High School.
