Goodrich complex gets off the ground

Goodrich – Work on the new Goodrich Muncipal Complex is rapidly progressing.
The complex, located at State and Hufstader roads across from Brown’s Do-it Center, includes a village office building, a Department of Public Works building, and a salt barn.
Despite its low-lying appearance, the site is not a flood risk, says village administrator Jakki Sidge. Rather, some of the buildings are built into a hillside.
Framework, which started late in March, is now taking shape. Sidge expects the complex to be completed this summer.
The muncipal complex is being built by G.P. Graham Construction of Saginaw, which won the contract with an approved bid of $968,500 last fall after completing a post-bid addendum based on multiple interior and exterior revisions to bring down the average initial bid cost of $1,126,000.
To offset the cuts, officials are encouraging local business donations like the crushed concrete offered by Ken’s Redi-Mix.
The new village office building will provide additional elbow room for office staff, who have outgrown the current office space rented in downtown Goodrich.
The newly built complex will also accommodate on-site storage and free up space in the village park, said Sidge.
