Dixon, Solley lead Brandon netters to second at tourney

It was a good start to the season for the Brandon girls tennis team.
The Blackhawks finished a solid second out of eight teams competing at the 19th annual Lapeer East Girls Tennis Tournament Aug. 12 at Lapeer East.
Brandon finished with 15 points, trailing only Davison, which won five of the eight flights to finish with 21 points. Yale took third with 14 points.
‘It was a pretty good day, and we had a number of kids play well,? Brandon coach Brian Moore said.
Lauren Dixon and Annemarie Solley captured Brandon’s lone first-place finish, winning #2 doubles by defeating Davison’s Ashley Payne and Ericka Royce 3-6, 6-4, (7-2) in the finals.
The Blackhawks made the finals in two other flights. Jessica Sanday advanced to the finals at #4 singles before losing to Davison’s Michelle Dick 6-1, 6-3, and the #4 doubles team of Megan Ostrowski and Anne McCabe lost in the finals to Davison’s Megan Thompson and Savanah Sanford 6-7, 7-3, (7-3), (9-7).
Other Brandon players competing in the tournament were Amanda Bohr (#1 singles), Monica Lambert (#2 singles), Danie Ashford (#3 singles), Jill Perry and Sarah Bond (#1 doubles), and Susan Gajdos and Lynsey Crain (#4 doubles).
