Goodrich ? Local Radio Disney listeners will be turning up the volume this year, as one Goodrich student takes to the air waves.
Elizabeth Melton, 11, will soon be taping a commercial spot promoting her favorite book, ‘The Giver? by Lois Lowry, a Newbery Medal winner about a 12-year-old boy whose perfectly chosen life ‘may not be so perfect after all,? said Elizabeth.
‘It’s really inspiring how it makes you really think about how lucky we are to have choices.?
Elizabeth, a Goodrich sixth-grader, was one of four Genesee County students chosen to tape the commercials.
To qualify for auditions, students tracked 32 or more hours of reading in the Genesee District Library’s summer program.
Elizabeth, who reads as many as three books a week, often visits the local GDL branch in downtown Goodrich.
From among 500 children who qualified, 12 children auditioned for the radio spots.
It’s a chance Elizabeth’s been hoping for all year.
Now she’s practicing and polishing what she’ll say in the coveted 30-second spot.
Goodrich librarian Kara Kvasnicka, who’s had several novel conversations with Elizabeth, is excited a local voice will be heard.
‘You just can’t help but be infected by her enthusiasm for (books),? said Kvasnicka. ‘Elizabeth was born to read.?
The commercials are expected to air by year’s end on Radio Disney, WFDF-AM (910).
