Goodrich Garden Walk returns

Goodrich- It’s time to stop and smell the roses. And the daisies. And the lilies. And perhaps admire some landscaping. In short, it’s time for the Goodrich Garden Walk.
The Goodrich Garden Club will host its seventh annual garden walk 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on July 14.
Each year, the tour highlights local gardens selected by the club for their unique beauty.
‘We kind of scout out (local gardens),? says Kathy Adair, Garden Club secretary. ‘We get little bits and pieces (of information about interesting gardens) from people and most of the time it’s not from the people who have the garden? they’re a little bit shy about it.?
Adair says she’s also spotted promising gardens while just passing through a neighborhood.
‘I’ve stopped before (at houses with nice gardens). I look in back yards. The residents in Goodrich do have some lovely gardens,? said Adair.
This year’s tour will take visitors to four local gardens within a ten-mile radius of one another.
One garden, said Adair, has an abundance of history.
‘It used to be an up-north retreat for families. They have many plantings that mother nature planted. They have a lot of old stone outbuildings that are just so cool,? said Adair.
A second garden features 20 garden beds with woodsy ornamentals interspersed with perennials and bulbs, said Adair.
The third garden is located along a 100-year-old farm house and features primitive art among the foliage.
Adair describes the last garden as having ‘a lot of texture and foliage…(with) beautiful trees of many varieties.?
Tickets for the tour are $5 each and are available from any garden club member or at Brown’s Do-it Center, 7821 S. State Road on the day of the tour. Tickets will also be available that day for the annual Salads Galore Luncheon, which takes place in conjunction with the tour at Goodrich United Methodist Church, 8071 S. State Road in Goodrich.
