Residents can pay on-line for parks pass

Residents registering for Orion Township Parks and Recreation Department activities now have the option of paying with their credit card online.
The Orion Township Board of Trustees has approved allowing the parks and recreation department to accept payment by credit card for parks and recreation activities only. Orion Township will use RecWare Pro software to allow internet registration for those activities.
The Active Network program, provided through Merrill Lynch, processes all credit cards and forwards a check to the township every two weeks for the funds collected on their behalf. The cost to the township will be $695 annually, and until March 31, RecWare will waive the $1,500 purchase price fee.
Orion Township Parks and Recreation Director Rock Blanchard said the 2003 budget includes $600 for bank charges, which would cover all but $95 of the annual fee. He said the other $95 could be taken from somewhere in the parks and recreation budget.
Blanchard said that the township currently does not offer payment by credit card, but that his office received 212 calls from residents who would like to have that option to pay.
