The Clarkston area was slammed with the third biggest snowfall on record last weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Clarkston received around 14 inches of snow Sunday and early Monday, closing Clarkston Community Schools on Monday and Tuesday, and keeping road crews busy. Still, this winter has a ways to go to compare with last winter.
Last year shattered the record for the coldest and snowiest winter on record. By the end of January 2014, 49.9 inches of snow had fallen.
The amount of snow as of Jan. 28 this year was 21.7 inches. The early February snowstorm makes it 35 inches. Total snowfall in winter 2014 was 87.7 inches.
‘There is quite a big difference between this year and last, and it would be pretty hard for us to break the record we set last year,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Sara Schultz.
Schultz added next week will be below average in temperature, while this Thursday will be the coldest day with a high of 12. The high temperature this week is forecast to be 29 degrees on Saturday. One to three inches of snow is possible on Saturday and Sunday. The NWA predicts this winter will be slightly below normal snowfall levels.
