Brandon Twp.- The plans of two township residents to make a clean getaway with stolen marijuana went up in smoke when they were caught on camera.
Christian Alan Willoughby, 18, a township resident, was arraigned Aug. 1 on one count of first degree home invasion. His 16-year-old accomplice was released to her father.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office report, Brandon deputies were called at 2:17 p.m., July 31, to a residence in the 3500 block of Cedar Loop after the complainant arrived home and discovered her front door damaged and every light in her home on. She reviewed her video surveillance and found footage of the two suspects on her property and one of them, later identified as Willoughby, entering the home.
The complainant, who has a medical marijuana card, found her closet door open and a substantial amount of marijuana missing.
Deputies reviewed the surveillance video, which showed Willoughby and the minor on the property between 10:22 a.m. And 10:33 a.m. July 31. Willoughby entered the home by forcing the door open with his shoulder. He initially denied any knowledge of the home invasion and theft, but confessed when confronted withthe evidence. The juvenile involved denied knowing that Willoughby intended to steal marijuana, even though she was the one who informed him that the woman who lives there had medical marijuana in the closet. She continued to deny involvement even after it was pointed out that she is seen in the video standing three feet away as Willoughby forced the door open.
The minor has been referred to Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance for counseling.
