15 years ago – 2004
“Wiggling readers” Youngsters enjoyed an afternoon of “Wiggling and Reading” at Independence Township’s Wee Wigglers. Songs and group participation were part of the fun.
“Clarkston father daughter team run Chicago marathon” Rick and Jessica Holman, of Clarkston, opted to run the Chicago marathon together. They had been training together for months. “It was Jessica who challenged me to get in shape and try for the marathon,” said Rick.
“Clarkston’s singles go big at states” Lauren Little, Alyssa Lucas and Stephanie Parkison brought home individual championships as the Clarkston Girls Varsity Tennis team finished fourth place overall with 20 points at the state championships.

25 years ago – 1994
“Fire station plans on hold” Plans to build a new fire station/sheriff’s substation in Independence Township hit a snag. The township board of trustees voted to have Supervisor Dale Stuart investigate the possibility of purchasing another section of property. Also, the board members had concerns of the building’s cost of over $2.3 million, higher than originally expected.
“Heads up!” The 1994 enrollment numbers for Clarkston High School had surpassed expected enrollment during the official head count for the district for the state. Elementaries and middle schools counts also were up.
“Cross country squad earn all-league” Seven Clarkston girl cross country runners were named all-league and led their team to a championship win at the Oakland Activities Association II meet.

 

50 years ago – 1969
“Hanson named head coach” B.J. Hanson was named varsity basketball coach for Clarkston High School. He successfully led the freshman and JV squads as well as being assistant football coach.
“Around the town” Mrs. J.P Hubbard of Holcomb Street attended the 102 birthday party for her mother, who was living in Winterpark, Florida. Five children and two grandchildren attended the party.
“Tersigni children salute parents” About 200 people helped Mr. and Mrs. Natale A. Tersigni celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Rev. F.J. Delaney and Rev. Joseph Juaniga officiated at an anniversary Mass at Our Lady of the Lakes church in Waterford.
