Skinner’s 20 points leads Martians past LakeVille

Goodrich’s offense laid low for three quarters against host LakeVille Jan. 16, but came through in the fourth quarter
In a Genesee Area Conference Red Division contest, the visiting Martians came from behind to defeat the Falcons 43-35, improving to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Goodrich’s Michael Skinner, who led all scorers with 20 points, scored all five of the team’s first-quarter points as LakeVille took a 7-5 advantage at the end of the period.
The two teams continued their deliberate pace in the second quarter, as the Martians edged in front of the Falcons at the half, 14-13.
The pace quickened a bit in the third quarter, but it was the Falcons that reclaimed the advantage at the end of the third, 26-24.
It was Skinner that sparked the Martians in the decisive final period, as he scored nine fourth-quarter points to lead the team to the win. The Goodrich junior nailed three 3-pointers in the game, and was the Martians? only double-figure scorer.
Kirk Elsworth cleaned up the glass for Goodrich, pulling down 12 rebounds, including three on the offensive end. He also had five steals in the game. Skinner added seven rebounds, while Max Bell contributed six. Craig Van Wagoner led the Martians with four assists.
