Goodrich netters in thick of things in GAC Red Division

The defending Genesee Area Conference Red Division champion Goodrich volleyball team will not give up their crown without a fight.
The host Martians defeated Bendle 15-1, 15-9 in a Jan. 26 contest, improving to 9-12-2 overall and 3-1 in the GAC Red.
Several Martians contributed to the team’s win:
‘Tara Garman — 4-4 serving, four aces, two digs, 2-3 passing, 5-7 attacking, one kill.
‘Julie Owen — 8-8 serving, three aces, one dig, 2-2 passing, 7-7 setting, two assists.
‘Marissa Misura — 5-5 serving, two aces, two blocks, 3-4 attacking.
‘Alyssa Bertrand — 11-11 setting, one assist, 2-2 passing.
‘Vicki Schall — 2-3 serving, two aces, 2-2 passing, 5-6 setting.
‘Casey Mayne — 2-3 serving, two aces.
By contrast, the Martians had a tough time of things at the Brandon Invitational Jan. 24.
The team went 1-4 on the day, with their only win a 25-17, 25-18 triumph against Auburn Hills Avondale. They lost in the first round of the championship bracket against Jackson, 25-20, 16-25, 18-25.
Goodrich also lost to Port Huron 17-25, 11-25 and North Branch 16-25, 18-25.
