The Mountaineers finished first place in the Corunna Early Bird Invitational last week.
The Everest Collegiate Girls Cross Country team finished with 26 points during the meet held on Aug. 31.
“Many ran times they didn’t run until October last year,” said Coach Mary Williams, adding it was a strong start with perfect conditions.
Four Mountaineers finished in the top ten with junior Caroline Cross placing in third in the time of 21:47.53; junior Alyse Felix, fourth, 22:17.78; freshman Erica Walker, fifth, 22:21.56; and senior Avery Herrgott, seventh, 22:35.33.
The top seven runners also included sophomore Eve Herrgott in 12th place, 23:33.98; freshman Olivia Leahy, 21st place, 24.21.97; and junior Stephanie Suran, 31st place, 25.26.04.
Unionville-Sebewaing finished in second place with 56 points; Laingsburg, third, 78; New Lothrup, fourth, 93; Perry, fifth, 113; Morrice, sixth, 182; Byron, seventh, 183; and Montrose, eighth, 223.
The Mountaineers finished in sixth place overall with 161 points in the Michigan Catholic XC Invitational, Aug. 28, at St. Francis Retreat Center. They finished third in the small school division with Division 3 and Division 4 schools.
“A majority of runners outran their times from the same meet last year,” said Williams. “It is a strong start to the season.”
Felix led the Mountaineers, finishing in 23rd place in the time of 23:04.2; Cross, 24th, 23:06.3; Walker, 27th place, 23:17.2; Avery Herrgott, 34th place, 23:33.1; Eve Herrgott, 56th place, 25:00.3; Suran, 66th place, 26:20.7; and Leahy, 70th place, 26:28.5.
The Mountaineers opened the season at the Clawson Watermelon Invite, Aug. 24, finishing in second place.
“It was a hot day,” Williams explained. “A couple couldn’t finish.”
The top seven runners were Felix in seventh place in the time of 24:17.4; Cross, eighth place, 24:19; Avery Herrgott, 12th place, 25:09.2; Suran, 33rd place, 29:22.8; senior Celine Legg, 35th place, 29:40.2; and Eve Herrgott, 37th place, 29:58.9.
Royal Oak Shrine finished in first place with 71 points; Everest, second, 73; Michigan Athletic Club for Homeschoolers, third, 79; Imlay City, fourth, 94; and Almont, fifth, 103.
