25 years ago – 1997
Evans second in hurdles: Four years of sweat, hard work and determination all came down to one 14-second span for Clarkston High School senior Chris Evans at the MHSAA Class A Track and Field State Championship. Evans broke his own record in the 110-meter hurdles and finished in second place in the time of 14.2 seconds.

50 years ago – 1972
New rec director, a busy man: Timothy Doyle, Independence Township’s new recreation director was getting the feel of the new rec program that launched. He had tons of items on his to-do list but at the moment he was looking for Little League managers and sponsors as well as people who would donate in-ground swimming pools for the instruction of beginning and advanced Red Cross water safety courses. His first week was also devoted to interviewing people for jobs as lifeguards, umpires and playground aides.

75 years ago – 1947
More books added to school library: The annual Book Tea was held in the auditorium of the school last Wednesday afternoon. Those who were there enjoyed a new program, a fine display of new library books which were attractively arranged on a table decorated with apple blossoms, a talk fest with neighbors and friends and dainty refreshments served by kindergarten room mothers.
