15 years ago – 2001
“Rockin’ at the Fox” Former Clarkston resident Denise Caston was taking over the Fox Theatre stage as a Radio City Rockette in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
“Books are cooler when read by Ernie” A legendary voice echoed through Pine Knob Elementary as Ernie Harwell, baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster for the Detroit Tigers, stopped by to visit the fourth and fifth graders. He shared “there’s magic in everything you read” before reading “The Babe and I” to the students.
“Icers open season with win over Mott” Six different Wolves contributed in the season opener against Waterford Mott as Clarkston Hockey defeated the Corsairs at the Polar Palace in Lapeer, 6-2.

25 years ago – 1991

“City status” Independence Township learned the “stay of proceedings” they filed to halt Clarkston’s cityhood proceedings was not being recognized by the Michigan Court of Appeals.
“Questions add muscle to human anatomy class” Bill Mackson, a teacher at Clarkston High School, lives for questions in his human anatomy classes. When he taught there were as many questions and answers as a game of “Jeopardy.” Sometimes he would be the one asking the question, sometimes it would be students. He was a firm believer there is no such thing as a stupid question.
“Turkey tales” The turkey’s gobble while visiting North Sashabaw Elementary stopped Phillip Gentges in his tracks. Many students learned about turkey calls and touched Tom the turkey’s rubber-like head.

50 years ago – 1966
“Only minor accidents over holiday” The Sheriff’s department reported a minimum of accidents in Independence Township over the Thanksgiving holiday including one on Thanksgiving morning and two over the weekend.
“Wolves open with Lakers” Fans were getting ready for the Clarkston Varsity Boys Basketball team to open their season with returners Dan Fife, Tom Allen, Randy Nicoson, Mark Erickson and Mark Richard.
“Round the town” Mrs. Albert Peterson was the special guest of the First Methodist Sunday School as she showed them how to make Advent Wreaths and explained their meanings and different ways people used them.
