Runners and walkers hit the roads of Clarkston for Angel’s Place Race, 9 a.m., Saturday, May 18.
“We had 330 walkers and runners last year, and we hope for 350 this year,” said organizer Paul Maxwell of Clarkston.
Raising $23,000 at last year’s fund-raiser race, this year’s goal is $24,000, Maxwell said.
“We appreciate all the support of Clarkston businesses and community,” he said. “We’d like the whole community to come out and support us.”
Runners and walkers enjoy the course, with its challenging hills and small town atmosphere.
“It’s a nice route ? they really like it,” Maxwell said.
The event is based at St. Daniel Catholic Church in Clarkston. Activities also include lots of door prizes, donated by local businesses including Great Lakes Athletic Club, Smith Disposal, Woodshop and Union, Kinetics, and Waterfall Florist, and a mini car show featuring the latest from John Bowman Chevrolet and other local dealers.
Proceeds benefit Angel’s Place, which provides residential homes and independent living services for people with developmental disabilities.
Long-term goals include building a Clarkston home for Angel’s Place, Maxwell said.
“We’re in the planning stages,” he said.
