Agencies team up for animals

Oakland County Animal Control Officer Davis, with Puddin’ the shelter dog, is teaming up with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan Humane Society to crack down on animal abuse.

Oakland County Animal Control, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan Humane Society (MHS) are teaming up to fight animal abuse in the county.
“Animal cruelty doesn’t respect city, county, or state lines, so we are incredibly excited to forge this new partnership with the teams in Oakland County,” says MHS vice president of Field Services Andy Seltz.
“We will not tolerate individuals or illegal activities which abuse animals,” said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. “Animals are a blessing and we have a responsibility to ensure they are properly treated. We are all doing more with less these days and by working together we can maximize our effectiveness to prevent animal abuse.”
The teams will assist each other in investigating animal cruelty, and share expertise and resources such as expert witnesses, forensic medicine, and leveraging third-party relationships.
“Oakland County has always embraced all attempts to stop the exploitation of animals,” says Bob Gatt, manager of the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center. “Enforcing animal abuse laws in an aggressive, robust manner with our new partners at Michigan Humane Society will send a clear and persistent message to those that abuse animals.”
Report suspected mistreatment of animals to Oakland County Animal Control Division or Oakland County Sheriff Office, both at 248-858-1090. Michigan Humane Society cruelty investigators can be contacted at 313-872-3401.
