Lots of exercise for a good cause- that is what participants were doing during the seventh annual Angel’s Place Race, May 17.
Race Director Paul Maxwell said attendance for the event was up since last year. Days before the race, over 250 people were already signed up for the competition.
A 10K run kicked off just after 9 a.m. followed by the Bruce Clifton 5K run and walk and then a 1-mile family fun walk.
State Sen. Jim Marleau spoke to 10K participants to kick off the race just before runners set off on a preset course down Clarkston streets.
Oakland County Sherriff’s Deputies monitored streets to make sure drivers obeyed the law and participants stayed safe.
Maxwell thanked all the local businesses and people who supported the race.
A non-profit organization, Angel’s Place operates 20 homes primarily in Oakland County for people with developmental disabilities.
Money raised will help support homes and services offered at Angel’s Place and will also be used raise awareness in the community.
They currently have 300 people on a waiting list to get into the home.
