Oxford Village Manager Joe Young was given another hat to wear last week. Council voted 4-0 to appoint him as acting interim executive director/manager of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). He will receive no additional pay. The DDA has been without a director since July 1, when the 2013-14 fiscal year began. The director’s position […]
No meetings of the Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will take place for the foreseeable future as its nine-seat board only has four members left, not enough for a quorum to conduct business. Last week, DDA board members Jim Bielak, Tom Jones and Anna Taylor all simultaneously resigned from the board, which already had two […]
It’s raining money for the Oxford Village Police dispatch system. On Tuesday, the state Treasury Department announced the village was awarded a $65,000 grant through the Competitive Grant Assistance Program (CGAP). There’s nothing like sitting in a blind on a crisp, clear autumn morning, waiting for sunrise and listening as nature begins to come alive for another day. Words cannot begin to describe the thrill […]
The rain stopped Friday evening just in time for Oxford to hold its annual homecoming parade. Colorful floats, tons of kids, marching band members and the famous Wildcat mascot were all there to help bolster school and community spirit. Homecoming is always a major event in a small town and Oxford is no exception.
It got loud and rowdy at Oxford High School Friday afternoon as students and staff got all fired up for the big homecoming game with a wild pep assembly that left everyone brimming with Wildcat pride.
He spent most of his life helping others feel better. It certainly doesn’t seem fair that he should meet such a tragic end. A violent crash in front of The Golden Nugget restaurant (1055 S. Lapeer Rd.) on Friday, Sept. 13 claimed the life of Mitchell, a 10-year-old English springer spaniel who was a registered […]
