Back to school blues

As summer begins to fade into memory, thoughts turn to the beginning of school. For students that means homework and no more sleeping in, but for parents, the back-to-school concerns are a little more complicated.
School begins for Clarkston Schools on Sept. 5, and often the first week of class is spent adapting to the new schedule and preparing for the new school year. Whether they are buying all the necessary supplies, signing up for the PTA, checking out fall sports or filling out a slew of paperwork, parents have a lot to deal with at the beginning of a new school year.
To help alleviate the burden and get a head-start on things, the PTA at Bailey Lake Elementary sponsored a back-to-school ice cream social on Aug. 24.
After an introduction for families new to the school, parents were able to fill out paperwork and peruse available opportunities for them or their children while the youngsters got to enjoy some free ice cream courtesy of the Good Humor company.
Bailey Lake’s new Principal Glenn Gualtieri was on hand with several members of the school’s PTA to help facilitate the event.
‘It’s just like an expo,? said PTA president Shannon Lee describing the multiple stations setup in the school’s gym. Lee said this year was the first time the PTA decided to hold such an event, but did so hoping to making life easier for parents.
‘It’s just a great way to alleviate the stress of going back to school,? said Lee.
