Blessings in summer

From the back of the front table, Ali Buscher, Corrin Gualtieri, Kayla Luchenbach, Kate Gualtieri, Brendan Dicker, Callie Dickens, Caitlin Dicker, and Makenna Walk; and behind the table, Kerri Gualtieri, Debbie DeVault, Jessica Sorenson, Joyce Bleium, Thelma Peterson, Brady Dickens, Will Dickens, Jane Sorenson, Sophie Sorenson, and Maddie Kujala packed and distributed Blessings in a Backpack all summer.

Twenty-two students and adults planned, put together and participated in the Blessings in a Backpack project over the summer.
This past June marked the beginning of the Summer Food Program, in which 80 students participated. They received three monthly food distributions through August.
“This was made possible by the community’s ongoing generous support of Blessings in a Backpack, most notably through our signature event, the fall Pine Knob Golf Outing, lunch and auction, this year on Sunday, Sept. 25,” said organizer Brenda DuPree.
Blessings in a Backpack – Clarkston was begun by school and community volunteers five years ago. Each week during the school year, backpacks of food for the weekend are packed and distributed through the schools.
“The goal is to keep these students from going hungry and remove barriers to academic success,” DuPree said.
