In November, voters in the Brandon School District will choose two board trustees from a field of four candidates and voters within the village of Ortonville will make a choice in the council president race and in seating a trustee for a partial term.
But as was revealed when the petition deadline passed at 4 p.m. Tuesday, three 4-year village council trustee seats are already decided, since only three people filed to run.
The candidates who will appear on the ballot for the three four-year term village council trustee seats are:
nTom Peters, a former village councilmember who has been employed as a GM truck driver at the parts plant in Swartz Creek for 39 years and is a member of the Lions Club, the Masons and the Eastern Stars.
nColeen Skornicka, who was appointed to the village council last October, is a volunteer for OCEF and St. Anne Church and was formerly employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in the federal business division, performing data analysis.
nLiz Waters, owner of Trinity Photography in the village, CreekFest coordinator the last two years, Beets, Beats & Eats volunteer; and Downtown Development Authority promotions committee member.
Competing for the village council president position, a 2-year term, are:
nKay Green, the current council president pro-tem and member of the village council for the past 20 years, member of the fire authority, office manager for the Amyloidosis Foundation in Clarkston for the past four years, and retired from the Department of Human Services after 32 years of service.
nWayne Wills, CEO of Wills Insurance Group for 35 years, a member of the Lions Club for 34 years and current president; Christmas in the Village volunteer, and former school board member. Running for the partial-term trustee seat that ends in November 2012 are:
nDebbie Baker, an active DDA board member and promotions committee member, and Beets, Beats, & Eats market manager, all since 2007, as well as Cub Scout Pack 191 volunteer.
nMelanie Nivelt, a village council member since 2007, planning commission member since 2009, Brandon School District volunteer and employed as a photography agent.
Voters will choose two Brandon School Board members for 4-year term:
nGreg Allar, an Oakland University professor for 20 years who has served as a Brandon School Board member for the past four years.
nJanet Kurnat, who is retired as a Brandon High School social studies teacher after 31 years in the district, long-time OCEF volunteer and current treasurer for the Community Christmas Toy Store, and tax-preparer for H & R Block;
nAl Manfroni, financial development consultant for the non-profit Motor City Blightbusters and owner of North American Property Holdings, president of the Brandon Junior Blackhawks.
n LeAnne Schmidt, a part-time debate teacher at Notre Dame Preparatory High School in Pontiac; current treasurer of Crosshill Preschool in Davisburg; and current youth director of North Oakland Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
