Car crash at Fourth parade

Folks watching the Clarkston Fourth of July Parade got a scare when an entrant, a ’57 Chevy, accidentally crashed into a trailer in front, at the corner of Buffalo and Church.
“Luckily the people in between the float and car jumped out of the way and no one was injured,” posted witness Daniel Rineer on Facebook. “If the float hadn’t have stopped it, the car would’ve gone right into the crowd.”
The driver told deputies his accelerator stuck open, which caused the vehicle to suddenly lurch forward into the trailer in front of his, said Lt. Larry Perry, Oakland County Sheriff’s Independence Township substation commander.
The driver was found at fault but wasn’t issued a citation, Perry said.
Parade entrants are required to carry insurance on their vehicles, and the parade also has insurance, said Joette Kunse, parade committee member.
“We ask each vehicle certify that they have insurance,” Kunse said. “We have an emergency plan of where support is located. We had asked people to give plenty of room between entries.”
