WORDS FROM THE SUP’T: Alumni always welcome

Each year at commencement, I give a gift to every graduate. My gift is both a promise and a wish. The gift (a humble red thread) represents the promise of the lifetime connection our students have to our schools, the Clarkston community, and to each other. Likewise, it is my wish that our alumni will […]

PHIL IN THE BLANK: Closing time

The curtain has fallen (or more like slid across the stage) on the Clarkston Village Players show I’ve been working with, “Morning’s At Seven.” It’s my fourth production so far, all with CVP within the last couple years. Its closing leaves me with the same bittersweet sense of accomplishment and loss I’ve felt with the […]

SPIRITUAL MATTERS: Time for renewal of creation

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it […]

They competed in an all day tournament at the Detroit Science Center, Nov. 11. There were 22 teams present and the top six teams qualified to move on […]

SPIRITUAL MATTERS: A prayer for Thanksgiving

We are in the midst of this season of frenetic activity and nonstop celebrating (or at least preparation for celebrating) someone has all too accurately dubbed “Hallowthankmas.” While I am not sure of the origin of the term, I am certain that I know the experience of this busy and often stressful, and yet hopefully […]

JESSICA’S JOURNAL: Troubleshooter

The Clarkston community was shaken last week by the actions of a resident who shot two people in Ortonville. Luckily the two victims are in stable condition and no one else was injured during the ensuing manhunt, but area schools, including Clarkston, were shut down as a precaution. I think the schools made the right […]

Scouting for Food

Girl Scout Troop 75949 partnered with Gleaners Food Bank, collecting bags of food Clarkston residents left on their porches to be donated, Nov. 11. This was their first year participating in Scouting for Food as a troop, and they were able to fill an SUV with donations with the help of the community.

PHIL IN THE BLANK: Curtains for computer

There’s nothing like a dead computer to focus one’s priorities. I kept everything on there, despite the nearly constant advice of just about everyone who knows anything about data management. The laptop suffered a fall to the floor. It was balanced on the arm of a recliner, but the incident is of course mostly due […]
