Clarkston schools can’t mask return-to-school excitement

This week, Clarkston Community Schools students began their gradual transition back to face-to-face instruction in buildings.
Students in Young Fives and Kindergarten returned on Monday, with the other elementary grades added on Wednesday and Thursday.
Students in grades 6-12 with last names beginning with A-K will resume school on October 12. The other half of secondary students will resume school the next day.
Superintendent Dr. Shawn Ryan recently applauded teachers’ efforts.

“I can’t say enough about the teachers in Clarkston who have done an amazing job at providing quality distance learning experiences for students this first month of the school year,” said Ryan. “I’m seeing creativity, fortitude, and grit by our families and our students to make this work. I’ve been inspired in a lot of ways going through the last several months. I think that attitude is incredibly important in terms of how we take things on and if we open our eyes to see the positivity of a country that’s struggling, we will see pockets of greatness. I don’t want that to get left behind.
“I believe that we’re going to be stronger for this in the long run. So I choose to take that attitude and I hope that my colleagues and I can show this community that there are a lot of positive things to grab onto. We need to keep pushing forward.”
Clarkston Community Schools is also looking to add to its teaching and support staff as students return to school.
The district is now hiring and is taking applications at clarkston.k12.mi.us/jobs.
