Clarkston tennis shines on courts in regional meet with 21 points

The Wolves are heading to the MHSAA Girls Tennis Division 1 State Championship after finishing in second place in their regional meet at Clarkston High School last Thursday.
“It was an impressive showing,” said Clarkston Girls Varsity Tennis Head Coach Mary Jo Colonna. “Clarkston came out to compete.”
The Wolves were seeded in every flight and finished with 21 points at the Division 1, Region 7 tournament. They had a championship win by sophomore Katarina Fisher at Singles No. 4 flight.
Fisher went 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to win the championship round over Bloomfield Hills’ Julia Yousif. She also had wins over Ava Anderson from Walled Lake Northern, 6-0, 6-0; and Alexis Guenther from Walled Lake Lakeland, 6-0, 6-2.
Freshman Leah Geisz on Singles No. 1 had a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lakeland’s Garrigo Mireria; and lost to Rochester Adams’ Nicole Fu. She won the first match, 6-3, and Fu won the next two, 6-2, 6-0.
Freshman Charlotte Partchenko on Singles No. 2 had a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lakeland’s Ava Assante; and lost 6-1, 6-3 to Lake Orion’s Avi Shah.

Junior Abbey Labatte on Singles No. 3 had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rochester’s Cecelia Crandall. She moved on to the championship after Bloomfield Hills’ Grace Shaya retired during their matchup. Labatte lost to Lake Orion’s Nicole Luna in the championship round, 6-1, 6-4.
Three doubles teams made it to the championship finals round.
Freshman Kate Ketzler and sophomore Lauren Sielinski on Doubles No. 1 had a 6-0, 6-0 win over Waterford United; and 6-1, 6-1 win over Walled Lake Northern. They lost to Bloomfield Hills, 6-2, 6-0.
Senior Zoe Paxton and junior Maddie Gurn on Doubles No 2 had a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rochester. After losing the first match to Rochester Adams, 6-3, they came back to win 6-1, 6-0. They lost to Bloomfield Hills, 6-2, 6-1.
Junior Kendall Woodward and freshman Abby Finnerty on Doubles No. 3 had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Waterford United. They moved on to the championship round after Walled Lake Northern retired. They lost to Bloomfield Hills, 6-0, 6-0.
Senior Abigail Walker and senior Sam Galley had a 7-6, 6-2 win over Lake Orion. They lost to Rochester Adams, 6-4, 6-0 and took the second match, 6-3.
Bloomfield Hills finished in first place with 25 points. The top five teams out of ten teams also included Lake Orion in third place with 17 points; Rochester Adams, fourth, 15; West Bloomfield, fifth, 7. The Wolves head to Kalamazoo for the state finals, June 2-3
