AUBURN HILLS — The Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball team ended the season early with a 58-51 loss in the MHSAA Division 1 District Semifinal against Avondale, Feb. 26.
“Our effort was good – mentally, physically,” said Tim Wasilk, head coach. “Our kids were ready to play. We are really happy the kids left it all on the floor.”
He added Avondale is a good team.
“They shot the ball very well,” he said. “They have two really good shooters and played really well defensively. They just had our number this year.”
Senior Quinn Rosenberg led with 19 points and had six rebounds. Junior Hayden Flavin had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior John Kaul had eight points, three rebounds and three assists. Junior Cole Charter had seven points and seven assists.
The Wolves finished the season with an overall record 15-8 and 6-6 in the OAA Red.
“It’s never easy when the season ends,” said Wasilk. “It ended a little too early for us.”
He added the season end and the competition the team played this year will help returners for next season and beyond.

“We are going to get everyone’s best especially with the success we have had in the past,” Wasilk said. “We do have good players returning who have put in a lot of minutes. It’s just having that feeling or this bad taste in your mouth. Hopefully it will motivate the kids a little more to put in that extra effort in the off season. Our off season was really good this year. We just need to get motivated a bit more.”
Clarkston graduates six seniors – Kaul, Rosenberg, Josh Ellingsworth, Caleb Harmon, Troy Rosenberg and Doug Schoenefeld.
“They are great kids, really fun to coach,” said Wasilk. “Their effort and commitment was there all year. They had good leadership on and off of the floor. They got along really well. The team chemistry was good. There are a lot of positives to this team.”
Wasilk shared the boys basketball program is going to do well in years to come as the JV finished 19-3 and won the league with a 12-1 record, and the freshman team went undefeated for the second consecutive year. Read about the freshman team’s success in an upcoming edition of The Clarkston News.
“We have good kids, good players coming up from the lower levels,” Wasilk said. “It looks good for the future.”
